Best Home Gyms On a $200 Budget [2017]

Looking to build a home gym on a budget? Well, $200 is a great starting point that can give us exactly what we need to get in that full-body workout. I’ll lay out two options for us below and you can decide which one is the best for your needs and goals. Luckily we were able to get all the equipment in within our $200 budget without having to go overboard.

One more thing I made sure of was to ensure that both options included some kind of exercise and equipment for both the upper and lower body. If we’re going to build a home gym, we better do it right. Feel free to mix and match and choose which pieces of equipment is best suited for you, and your home. Only you know best, which equipment is most beneficial for you and your goals.

Home Gym Option #1

#1. Stamina 1690 PowerTower

For less than $100, you can purchase one of the most effective pieces of equipment available for strength training, allowing you to work on some of your most basic yet essential compound exercises to help you build up the most amount of strength possible. This sturdy and durable piece of equipment will allow you to do push-ups on an incline, pull-ups, chin-ups, triceps/chest dips, vertical knee raises, and so much more.

I found there to be only two drawbacks with the Stamina 1690 PowerTower; the first being that it’s only capable of holding a person up to 250 pounds at a time. Otherwise, the tower is likely to shake and not be very stable. The second being that it’s very limited in the number of leg workouts you can exercise. Otherwise, the Stamina 1690 PowerTower is a steal for its low price point and for the endless amount of upper body variety you can incorporate. This brings us to gym equipment #2.

#3. Exercise Foam Roller By Product Stop Inc.

With just a bit of money left to spare, it only makes sense to invest in a foam roller, especially with the grueling workouts these two machines are bound to give us. This particular foam roller comes with your own sports bag, a variety of colors to choose from, and a stiff roller as well. I highly recommend foam rolling for so many reasons.

One, it increases the delivery of blood flow and oxygen to your muscles, working to keep them nice and healthy and free of any strain and tension. Foam rolling also helps with your recovery time after your workout, improves your posture, keeps you flexible and mobile, helps eliminate chronic pain, along with so many other benefits. Last but not least, it feels great. Painful, but great 🙂

Alternative Home Gym Option #2:

#1. Soozier Incline Bench Press

The Soozier Incline bench press is one of the best standard bench press items you can buy at this budget, fitting any individual, no matter your height. Unlike other bench presses at this similar price range, the Soozier Incline Bench also includes a leg lift that is designed to target the hamstrings, quads, and gluteal muscles allowing you to alternate between your bench press and lower body workouts. It also includes a preacher curl at the end of the bench so you can give your biceps a nice lift.

There are some cons to the Soozier Incline Bench, such as the fact that it cannot decline like the CAP bench can. But unlike the CAP Bench, this bench should fit any individual regardless of height. The Soozier Incline Bench is one of the best pieces of fitness equipment you can buy at this price, incorporating a flat & incline bench, a preacher curl, and leg lift. Now, the only thing left we need is a bar and some weights.

#2. CAP Barbell Regular Grey 110-pound Weight Set

The 110-pound CAP Barbell is a decent quality set and addition for our new bench press. Not only does it come with a 5-foot standard barbell, but includes 2 additional standard dumbbell handles as well. The plates that come with the barbell are on the lighter side, but it comes with a bunch of them so you can easily customize your bench weight. Here are the included plates: 6 x 2.5-pound plates, 6 x 5-pound, and 4 x 10-pound.

For heavier lifters, this setup probably won’t be ideal since we’d require some kind of 300-pound olympic weight set, which are very costly. But, if you’re looking for something light to go with your bench press, this set should be just fine. One awesome alternative I’d love to recommend is going with the Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbells. Though more expensive, these dumbbells are my favorite piece of home workout equipment!

Home Gym Option 2 Summary:

Final Home Gym Price: $194.94

Conclusion

Both options leave us at a price point right below our budget! I don’t think we can go wrong with either of these options when building our $200 home gym. Both options will help give you that full-body workout by giving you the most value for your money.

I personally like option #1 because the PowerTower just offers so much versatility within your workout and so many exercise variations. For me, this is important to ensure more variety into my workouts and to keep me from doing the same and somewhat mundane exercises over and over.

On the other hand, having a bench press in your home is simply a great feeling and I could totally understand why you’d prefer to go with that instead. Having that extra leg lift, preacher bicep curl, and set of dumbbells is just another added benefit of alternative option #2.

Regardless, happy lifting and if you ever need any help deciding on which equipment is best for you, leave me a comment below and I’ll be more than happy to answer 🙂
