One of my favorite home gym manufacturers of all-time is Bodycraft! The quality of their home gyms are right up there with other big brand names like Marcy and Bowflex. Their focus on delivering nothing but the utmost quality is a signature of the Bodycraft name and is something that can be seen in both the Bodycraft Xpress Pro and the more exclusive HFT Functional Trainer.
One of the biggest standout features that can be observed with the HFT Functional Trainer is the ability to neatly tuck away your home gym into any corner of your basement, garage gym, or room. It is in other words, one of the most functional, versatile, and space-saving home gyms you’ll find today.
The best aspect to this feature is that it doesn’t compromise the space you have within your home gym and that it will ultimately give you plenty of space to comfortably fit other pieces of home gym equipment, which is very important when attempting to build any kind of gym within your home.
So if you’re looking for a high-quality gym with a somewhat bigger focus and emphasis on upper body workouts, you may prefer going with the HFT Functional Trainer, which also gives plenty of room for lower body workouts as well.
Specs & Dimensions
Perhaps the most attractive feature of all when it comes to the HFT Functional Trainer is its overall size and build. Unlike home gyms that are similar to the Bodycraft Xpress Pro, the HFT Functional Trainer doesn’t seem too bulky or intrusive. Instead it’s the kind of gym that can be placed flat against the wall or into the corner of your room.
The dimensions of the HFT is in-fact smaller than that of the Bodycraft Xpress Pro, measuring only 56″W x 38″D x 82″H. The real space-saver here is in its 40″D or L, whereas the Bodycraft Xpress Pro is nearly double that as a result of the attached seat, which the HFT Functional Trainer does not have.
Instead, the HFT is the kind of home gym that is primarily used when standing up or in an upright position. But can most-certainly be used seated as well and in conjunction with your own adjustable bench. Despite its smaller length, the HFT Functional Trainer still requires a high ceiling due to its lengthy 82″ in height, while the rest of its size is taken up in its width, making it ideal to lay flat against a wall or in a corner. Its 500-pound weight further begs the question of what the best home gym flooring is to place underneath for protected floors, which you can find more on here.
Features & Exercises
Now onto the best and most exciting aspect of this HFT Functional Trainer review, which are its features. In this section, we’ll be looking at what exactly it is about the HFT Functional Trainer that makes it standout more-so than other home gyms and whether this justifies its cost.
While you might find there to be pros and cons to the features included with the HFT, there is no deniability that the HFT Functional Trainer is a functional gym at heart with more than enough features, accessories, and tools to get in a full-fledged workout right from home.
Dual 150-Pound Weight Stacks – Located on either side of the home gym. Both weight stacks can be upgraded to 200-pounds for a more strenuous workout. Each stack uses 5 pound increments, while providing 75 pounds in resistance.
Excellent Build & Quality – The HFT is constructed using heavy plate steel and heavy 11-guage steel tube coating (using a beautiful platinum grey and textured black finish).
Dual Cable Column Pulleys – Each column pulley is adjustable and independent of each other and features an astounding 31 height positions with 180-degree rotation, allowing you to fully adjust each pulley from top to bottom. This makes the HFT gym ideal for those looking for as much versatility and freedom when working out as possible. To add icing onto the cake, each pulley can extend to reach nearly 79.5″, completely extending & optimizing your range of motion.
Rated at Over 2000-lb. Tensile Strength – All cables and pulleys are coated with a flexible nylon and use a 7 x 19 aircraft cable, which has been rated at over 2000-lb., while using precision sealed ball bearings for a much smoother pull and increased range of motion. Guide rods are further made of 1″ diameter tubular steel and are chrome plated.
Limited Warranty Included – The HFT Functional home gym comes with a lifetime warranty on parts and frame for residential use. Limited warranty for commercial use includes a 2 year limited warranty on parts and 10 year limited warranty on the frame.
Comes With Accessories and a Multi-Grip Chin-up Bar – To improve matters even further, the HFT Functional Trainer home gym comes with all the accessories you need to make the most out of your home gym. That, along with the included multi-grip chin up bar and optional utility bench can’t be said for most home gyms out there. The included high-quality attachments include the following:
- Tricep Rope
- Assisted Pull-up & Push-up Nylon Strap
- Ankle Strap
- Two Chains
- Two Single Handles
- Long Bar & Short Bar
- Attached Exercise Book Or Placard (with instructions for over 70 exercises)
- Attached Hook For Each Accessory
There are so many features and aspects that make the HFT Functional Trainer truly one of the most functional home gyms out there. More importantly, is Bodycrafts fine attention to detail (e.g. laser cut etched weight stacks, fiberglass nylon pulleys, and 31 height positions with 180-degree swivel) that allows this gym to perform so flawlessly.
Equally as important is the fact that the workouts with the HFT Functional Trainer are nearly limitless – hence its name functional trainer, allowing for greater mobility, range of motion, and some of the most effective strength training workouts that can be performed.
While it’s the small things that do stand out in the HFT Functional home gym, one can’t forget about its attention to detail when it comes to size, build, and placement. For someone in the market who needs something so compact, but effective, this gym comes highly recommended!
