The $400 price point is definitely an amazing starting point for building our home gym. I think you are really going to love the different combinations of gym equipment that we can buy. As we’re about to see, a $400 gym will give us so many options and more importantly, will give us all the cardio, upper, and lower body workout that we need.
We’ll also be getting a ton of variety that will help us to mix up our workout routines from day to day. While it might not make for that dream home gym, it will still make for an amazing foundation that we can potentially build upon over-time. This home gym build will definitely make for a strong home gym foundation. So much so, that I didn’t find a need to offer two different options as I have with other budgets. Anyway, let’s get right to it!
#1. Stamina 1690 PowerTower
The Stamina PowerTower is one of my all-time favorite recommendations and as you may or may not have seen has been recommended in many other areas of this site as well. The reason I love the Stamina PowerTower is due to its affordability, the fact it gets the job done, the fact it doesn’t wobble when doing our exercises, it’s simplicity, compact nature, and all its versatility it has to offer.
Granted the fact we can only do our bodyweight workouts with this sturdy piece of equipment, it’s one of the best and most basic body towers on the market that will allow us to do many of our important compound exercises such as our pull-ups, push-ups, chin-ups, knee raises and more. Despite the fact the tower claims to only hold 250 pounds of weight, people weighing over 200 pounds had absolutely no problem with this product even when using a 50+ pound weighted vest.
#2. Sunny Health & Fitness Rowing Machine
With 12-levels of adjustable resistance, the rowing machine by Sunny Health & Fitness is bound to give us the workout of a lifetime. This very affordable piece of equipment includes foam padded handles to help us with our upper body strengthening. It has an LCD monitor used to conveniently keep us aware of the time spent rowing, the total count of rows, and amount of calories burned. The large sturdy paddles will help keep our feet secure as we intensely row our bodies, mind, and muscles to improved and better health.
Rowing not only allows us to get our cardio in but, may allow us to strengthen our upper and lower body at once. Compare that with a treadmill or bike that may only partially help strengthen the lower body. If you’ve ever seen rowers who do it as a sport, you may notice that they are some pretty strong individuals, and for good reason. Rowing requires a constant motion of your entire body at once and for your muscles to move in synchronicity with one another thus, giving way to a healthier and stronger you.
#3. Adjustable Dumbbells By Unipack
Simply awesome. This set of adjustable dumbbells by Unipack is just perfect for our home gym. I’ll always recommend getting adjustable dumbbells versus regular sets of dumbbells due to their extreme affordability. This one by Unipack offers two 5 pound collars, eight 5 pound plates, two 2.5 pound plates, and two 1.25 pound plates measuring to a total of 52.5 pounds for each included dumbbell. If you love working out with free weights, then you’ll love including this into your home gym and to top it all off, we can also include a utility bench as you’ll see next, allowing us to work out in our flat, decline, and incline positions. 🙂
#4. Marcy Adjustable Utility Bench
This simple yet very useful weight bench by Marcy will give us everything we need to use those adjustable dumbbells with. The weight bench will allow us to complete our chest presses and flys, lying tricep extensions, pullovers, one arm rows, and can even allow us to work our abs and legs by doing some step-up variations, and leg pull-ins. These are just a very few of the many exercises that can be done with this bench. The utility bench isn’t just your ordinary flat bench, but can be adjusted on a flat, incline, or decline basis. Let’s not miss out on this snazzy and amazingly useful bench made by the Marcy company.
#5. TriggerPoint Grid Foam Roller
With a few dollars left to spare, why not use it to invest into one of the best foam rollers on the market. The GRID foam roller by TriggerPoint.. Have you heard of it? It’s one of the best, long-lasting, most durable foam rollers ever made. This will be the perfect way to end our workout routine by working on any muscle strains or knots within our muscles, while providing us with a much faster recovery time. The TriggerPoint GRID formula has been touted to help increase blood flow to those hard-worked muscles, improve balance, flexibility, posture, and potentially even help decrease overall muscle pain. I believe the TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller is a perfect way to finish off our home gym!

Unlike other budget ranges and price points, I’ve decided to keep this limited to only one home gym option and the reason for that being that we’re able to get a lot more for our money here. Much of this equipment helps to replace a lot of our other workout tools.
The Stamina 1690 PowerTower for example, completely eliminates the need for a pull-up bar. The adjustable dumbbells by Unipack combined with the utility bench also eliminates the need for a bench press, while allowing us to incorporate a whole host of other exercises.
